Colt McCoy expected to sit rookie season

Cleveland Browns annouced after the 2010 Draft that they plan to sit rookie quarterback Colt McCoy. Mike Holmgren, president of the Browns said most teams go wrong by scaring their young quarterback by starting them as rookies. I disagree with this statement. I feel a player, especially a quarterback must gain experience in order to be great as a pro football athlete. Instead of letting McCoy learn from his mistakes, the browns will start former Carolina Panther Jake Delhomme who threw over 20 interceptions in the 2009 season. If they can put they trust in a quarterback who will turn the ball over, they can trust the rookie quarterback who is the all-time most winning quarterback in FBS history.

NFL Draft: Rhode scholar Rolle drops to 207th overall

Florida State University’s safety and Rhode Schloar Myron Rolle was selected 207th overall by the Tennesse Titans in the 2010 NFL draft. Rolle missed the entire 2009 NCAA season to take advantage of his rhode scholarship and study at Oxford. The student athlete received his undergraduate degree in pre-med in 2 1/2 years. That’s pretty remarkable to most people but doesn’t seem to mean much to teams which passed on him until he was selected last pick in the 6th round. Him oping out his senior year for Oxford caused Rolle to slip in the draft along with millions of dollars. NFL scouts questioned his commitment to the game of football because his departure from the team. Are u serious? How can u question a guys commitment because of his desire for school?

The 6-foot-2 215 pound Rolle stated he made many sacrifices while enrolled at Oxford. He said he worked out between the hours of 6am and 8am 6 days a week to stay in shape while away from football. For a guy to be away from football for a year, come back in december to get ready for combine, then play in the senior bowl, if that’s not commitment then I don’t know what is.

Jets trade up to get USCs McKnight

In the 2010 draft the New York Jets traded up 12 spots, selecting USC running back Joe McKnight. With the departure of multi-purpose running back Leon Washington, jets found what they need to replace washington. While at USC, McKnight was very versitile, rushing for 1014 yards along with 8 touchdowns and 1251 yards on punt and kick returns last season. For a good quilty player such as McKnight to be selected 112th overall was a steal for the Jets. McKnight will add to the already talented Jets backfield with Shoon Greene and Ladanian Tomlinson. The New York Jets had the number one overall rushing offense and I see them being the number one rushing offense for a second year running in the up coming 2010 NFL season.

New rules For NCAA football

New rules have been made for college football, players will no longer be able to wear eye black with meassages on them, teams can no longer wedge block on kickoffs and last, touchdowns will be called back from teams who commit celebration penaltys. In my opinion, I don’t see any harm in the messages that players wear on their eye black on game day. Honestly I thought it was very unique and clever when I first seen Reggie Bush do it when he played for the USC Trojans. Its some how a way for some players to express themselves and in some cases intimidate their opponent. As far as the many times I’ve seen messages on players eye black, its only been area codes or a name of a person who pasted that was closed to the player. As for the wedge blocking concerns, I agree with the rule change because over the past could years many players have suffered concussions or serious head/neck injuries due to wedge blocking on kickoffs. I can understand where the change in the rules come into affect, the NCAA is concern with keeping their players safe from injuries and is try to help prevent some of them. Now I feel celebration rules shouldn’t be changed for a few reasons. First, if a team scores no matter how bad the celebration, the matter of the fact is they got into the endzone. Personally I enjoy seeing players taunt as they run into the endzone from 50 or 60 yards out. My old coach once told me if u don’t want them to celebrate then keep them out the endzone. I feel players are just having fun when they celbrate or taunt and to change the rules is just taking more fun out of college football.

Jets trade draft pick for super bowl MVP Santonio Holmes

On Monday the New York Jets signed former Pittsburgh Steelers Wide receiver Santonio Holmes. Holmes who is currently battling off the field legal problems was traded to the jets in exchange for a fifth round 2010 draft picks. When the jets signed former chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie, the first thought that came to my mind was, who going to be able to throw the ball on that stingy secondary. Two days later, when the jets sign another former charger, running back Ladanian Tomlinson to add to their number one ranked rushing offense, I thought what defense is going to be able to stop the jets rushing attack. These moves were key to the jets organization but left fans wondering why they haven’t signed a big play maker receiver. Just when they began to worry they got just what they needed and more. Holmes will be a key asset to the jets big play ability, he not only can make big plays down field when the ball is thrown to him but he can also has the ability to punt return and make plays from that aspect of the game. Holmes will be suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season due to a lawsuit filled against him for throwing a glass in a women face which left the lady with scars. I doubt if the suspension will slow the former super bowl MVP down from receiving producing the same as he did in Pittsburgh.

Roethlisberger’s investigation comes to a close

A couple of months back, Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year old college student inside of a nightclub, police reports said. If you are a fan or just know about different situations that take part with football players, then you know this is Big Bens second time in a short year that he has been accused of sexual assault/misconduct. As an athlete and the face of a professional team, there is no way you should have any sexual or any type of encounters with the law PERIOD. Most professional athletes feel that they have a higher power than the average person but in all reality they are the same as the next person just with a bigger pay check. As you can see over the past couple years, more and more athletes tend to find themselves face to face with the law. In my opinion these athletes are not thinking upon their actions and are just doing what they want with no regards to the consequences they will face in the future. Most will argue that big Ben is innocent and most will argue that he’s guilty, but for a guy to get accused not once but twice in one year, the odds of him being innocent are very slim in my eyes.

Joey Porter arrested for DUI

After the Donte Stallworth DUI accident which left a man dead and him serving time in jail, why would another professional athlete even have the nerve to even get themselves in those shoes? NFL linebacker Joey Porter has been arrested in Bakersfield on suspicion of drunken driving. And to add insult to injury this guy has the nerve to resist arrest and on top of that he isbeing accussed of assulting an officer. Some players just dont learn, Like my coach Al Lavan at DSU would say “thats door nob dumb, thats you spitting in my face and telling me its raining”, which is true. Im an athlete and from my time playing sports i had to learn that just because im the star running back or wide reciver dosnt give me th right to act a donkey. All of the NFL fans know commissioner Roger Goodell is a strick guy so it will be interesting to hear what the punishment Joey Porter will get.

Suspect arrested in the murder of Kendall Berry

After a 24 hour search, police find the murderer of FIU running back Kendall Berry. The murder was started by a heated argument between Berry and 22-year-old Quentin Rashad Wyche, in which Wyche fatally stabbed Berry to death outside of school doors. It’s a shame to see another murder on a college campus. What is this world coming to. I thought college was a place for people to educate themselves. I mean I can understand two people arguing and they get into a little scuffle but to stab a person whose a student athlete on school grounds is just insane. I feel Quentin Rashad Wyche should serve a long time in jail and let him really think about what he has done to the FIU sports program and th most important people his family.

Marion Jones to play in the WNBA???

On march 10, 2010 former olympic champion Marion Jones was signed to the Tulsa shock. For yall who dont know who Marion Jones is, she’s a former olympic sprinter from the USA team and in 2007 she was tested positive for an illegal drug called HGH.The drug is an proformance inhancing drug and she was stripped of all 5 of her gold medals for cheating. Did you hear what I just said cheating, now anyone in their right minds would know that the chances of her cheating again are very high. I understand where the shocks are coming from with signing her to the team because she was the starting point guard for the national champs the North Carolina tarheels. She was outstanding for 3 years and I guess the shocks still see that spark in her that she had back in her college days. The WNBA season will be starting soon and it will be very interesting to see what impact Marion Jones will have on the tulsa shocks season.

Former Charger Cromartie Headed to Jets

The New Yorks Jets last week traded there 2011 3rd round draft pick to the San Diego Chargers in exchange for the former pro bowler Antonio Cromartie. This move might be the biggest trade this off-season in the NFL. At the end of the 2009/2010 NFL season, Rex Ryan the New York Jets defense was number one in almost all categories, giving up only 14.8 points a game. Antonio Cromartie will get the chance to play along side shutdown pro bowler Darrelle Revis, who last year held all primary receivers to under 40 yards per game. Cromartie will add the key factor the jets was missing in the NFC championship game against the Colts and that's another potential shutdown corner. If Rex Ryan didn't have an answer for Payton Manning's prolific passing game before, he sure does now.
